Pulled the T-tops off at lunch. Drove down to Mecum for a bit. Got back to the office and went to put the tops back on....

The hinge ripped?! My entire trunk is shot, including the spring. This has not happened to me.
Freak occurrence I guess. I have never heard a problem with these, the trunk lid isn’t even that heavy.

I was curious as to how much that would run you, but it looks like classicindustries are about the only guys who stock the parts and their website is hot garbage, so I *still* don’t know how much it’ll run.

Same thing here. Trunk was completely rusted out and falling apart however the hinges and spring (!) holding it were friggin mint.

So your trunk is fine, it’s just that the rest of the car fell off of it. Replace the car?
JK. Hope it gets well soon.

Damn. Never seen that happen before. Contact GM and tell them you think this part should be recalled, just for the lulz.
I don’t blame you for letting someone else tackle this one.
As for doing it right, that’s what I did when I had my 81 Camaro. The doors were sagging (because of course they were, it’s a second gen), and I just bought the whole new hinge assembly. Sure, I probably could have gotten away with new pins, but I figured I’d rather do it once, the right way.
Unfortunately when I did that I ended up breaking my driver’s side door glass. It raised the door back to where it should be, and when I closed it the window hit the t-top and rained glass on me. The little piece in the window mechanism that stops the window from rolling up too far was no longer functioning. Oops.
